Pattyn Belgium (HQ) – specialist in box lining solutions – designs and produces packaging machines and fully automatic bag-in-box lines for the food and non-food industry. With more than 65 years of experience and 8 divisions, the Pattyn Group has strengthened its position worldwide in the industrial packaging sector and continues to maintain its leadership position in an ever changing market.

The main question at Pattyn was: “How can we create added value for our customers?” The idea came up to offer additional services for the customer based on data. To be able to do this, they want to collect the data generated by the machine and offer it to the customer in a secure way. It’s safe to say that Pattyn needed data expertise, and that’s how Vintecc came into the picture.

The challenge

The objective was to gain a better understanding of the performance of all machines in the field and to share this with the customers. An additional requirement was that Pattyn could also host the platform, in order to have full control over the data and to look for a solution that can be integrated with external services, such as its own customer portal. A scalable, integrable, secure and easy to maintain platform that translates into Capture, developed by Vintecc.

Capture: a cloud based solution

From the point of view of Pattyn and other machine builders, Vintecc has developed both local and cloud components that work together. The local components collect data and the cloud components securely collect this data and store it in a cloud database.

The data can be extracted from Capture via our data API, making it possible to link external tools
In addition to the data API, we have the management API that allows full management of Capture users, devices & businesses without the Capture front-end

Giles Lauwers, Technology Manager IoT solutions at Vintecc: “Within our Capture platform we have built an abstraction layer that allows Pattyn to generically use their own database type – independent of the standard Capture cloud database. The entire cloud platform runs on their own servers and has been fully customized to the needs of Pattyn.”

Vision for the future

With the current solution it is possible to create insights in data, but in the future we also want to work with that data, such as applying AI algorithms, cloud functions, etc. in order to create even more added value for customers.

Vintecc has expertise and additional resources that we did not have in-house. It is also a great advantage that they are a local partner. If we have a problem, someone from their team is always ready to help us if needed.”
