3D camera and customised software optimise production at Dovy Kitchens
Dovy Kitchens combines traditional craftsmanship with a forward-looking vision. For decades, they have been producing high-quality custom kitchens entirely in-house, with an eye for detail, quality and affordability. Their state-of-the-art factory in Roeselare is the beating heart of this approach: from sawing to assembly, everything is done under the supervision of their own experts.
Automation fits perfectly into this context. It enhances craftsmanship, speeds up processes and increases the consistency of each finished product. With the implementation of an intelligent robot vision solution for the automatic delivery of metal guides, Dovy is taking another step towards the factory of the future. Efficient, sustainable and true to their values.
"We knew what we wanted, but we didn't have the necessary vision expertise in-house. That's why we called on Vintecc for the integration."

Technical requirements
- Flexibility
The system had to be able to automatically recognise different types of conductors, both current and future variants. Dovy wanted to avoid a situation where every product modification would also require a technical reconfiguration.
- Visual complexity
The production environment placed high demands on the vision system. The metal guides contrast poorly with the bins, the differences between them are small, and the ambient light varies greatly. This makes reliable detection particularly challenging.
- Validation
The robot not only had to pick up guides, but also check whether they were the correct product type. At the same time, the system had to ensure that operators no longer had to perform certain physical tasks themselves, such as precisely positioning heavy containers.
- Sustainability and efficiency
The solution had to contribute to Dovy's sustainability objectives: an error-proof process that limits manual intervention and easily adapts to future product developments.
Well-thought-out automation
Vintecc developed a modular solution for bin picking based on stereo vision cameras. This technology forms the basis for a range of smart functions that make the entire process more efficient, reliable and ergonomic:
- Validation prior to line feeding
The robot does not simply perform a task. Each guide is first checked for correctness. Only when the system determines with sufficient certainty that the correct product type has been detected does it proceed to feed the production line. This ensures quality without the need for manual inspection.
- Recognition of product types
Based on the height and position of objects in the bin, the system detects the type of conductor involved. This is done using a point cloud created by projecting structured light onto the environment. This produces a highly accurate 3D visualisation, which can even distinguish subtle differences between product types.
- Proactive scanning
While the robot waits for the next task, it scans the next available bins. This way, it is prepared for what is coming and does not lose any time between two actions. This increases the speed and continuity of the entire process.
- Support via Capture
The system offers optional logging, configuration and remote monitoring via the Capture platform. Dovy retains full control over the data and decides whether it is managed locally or in the cloud. This connection makes it possible to call on external support from Vintecc if necessary, without the system being dependent on it.
The solution confirms Dovy's vision of using technological innovation as a lever for efficiency and sustainability. At the same time, it underlines their strategic choice to manage the entire production chain themselves, which allows them to perfectly align speed, quality and control.
Impact on the shop floor
- Ergonomic advantage for operators
Operators no longer need to handle heavy containers or position them precisely on the production line. They can simply present a pallet of containers to the robot and specify the number of layers. This reduces physical strain, increases comfort and lowers the risk of errors or injuries.
- Faster and more robust operation
The system is not only faster in execution, but also more tolerant of positioning deviations and less sensitive to minor variations. This increases the overall robustness of the process and keeps the production line running, even in the event of minor irregularities.
- Smart fault management and scalability
Errors or deviations are automatically flagged to operators, allowing for rapid intervention. At the same time, Dovy can easily add new guides to the system itself, making the solution future-proof and allowing it to grow alongside their product range.
- Confirmation of technological leadership
The solution fits perfectly with Dovy's positioning as an innovative manufacturer committed to technological progress without compromising on quality and reliability. It is tangible proof of their strategy to combine craftsmanship and automation.
Technology and expertise as a lever for growth
Thanks to Dovy's internal expertise and clear vision, it was possible to work efficiently on a solution. Close collaboration with Dovy's internal experts gave Vintecc everything it needed to deliver fast, high-quality work within Dovy's context of continuous innovation and craftsmanship.
With this robot-controlled, intelligent bin picking solution, Dovy is once again setting the tone: a harmonious blend of advanced automation and in-depth professional knowledge. In this way, they are building a production process that is not only more efficient, but also remains true to the DNA of Belgian precision and customisation. Fully prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.
